November 2011, and Rionna turns 18.

A Fancy Dress Party!  Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes - you must be joking?

(and thanks to Agnes for some of these pics too).

Before the madness begins.

18.  How did that happen?

We had to have a Mad Hatters Tea Party theme for the kitchen

And the good fairy smiled down on us

So who's first up for a dance?

Mary Poppins and her Sweep arrive.

No show without Pocahontas.

Sharon decided against being Lady Godiva, and was Rapunzel instead.  Just as well as we didn't have room for the horse!

For those who had not heard of this character (!!!), Rapunzel is a German fairy tale in the collection assembled by the Brothers Grimm, and first published in 1812 as part of Children's and Household Tales. The Grimm Brothers' story is an adaptation of the fairy tale

Persinette by Charlotte-Rose de Caumont de La Force originally published in 1698.  Its plot has been used and parodied in various media and its best known line ("Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair") is an idiom of popular culture.  Rapunzel's story has striking similarities to the 10th century AD Persian tale of Rudaba, included in the epic poem Shahnameh by Ferdowsi. Rudaba offers to let down her hair from her tower so that her lover Zal can climb up to her.   And I think she looked good in it (though the Lady Godiva costume would have been more fun!)

Spot the mouse.  Aforementioned Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood

HERE'S ALICE.  And Colin.

Another Alice, Peter Pan and a Mad Hatter.

And Peter Pan's always need a Tinkerbell

Cake time

All the young dudes

Trouble brewing

More trouble brewing

Oh dear what have we unleashed on the world?

Ok Dad, you can stop that now, I already have a knife to cut the cake.

Mum, they don't understand me!

Cake will make it better.

And Wicked

And goodnight.  Thanks to everyone for making it a great night.
